Why Summer is the Best Time to Deep Clean a School
|June 13, 2019
Let’s be honest: schools can be dirty places. Not to worry though, as the same is true of any business, which is why it’s so important to maintain good cleaning routines. But the addition of kids (and lots of them) is sure to make the task of keeping a big environment nice and clean into a special challenge. When it comes to keeping your school clean, there are a few important facts to keep in mind. The first key with any business, is consistent and regularly cleanings scheduled on a routine basis – weekly, monthly, and annually. The second is, with the addition of children and massive amounts of people coming and going daily, timing can be everything.
When it comes to daily cleaning, before or after school are really the only options. It’s just not possible to clean that many separate indoor and outdoor spaces with kids running around. Weekly cleaning can be done on the weekends, and deep cleaning is another beast entirely.
When it comes to deep cleaning, it takes a few things for a successful operation (such as organization and proper resources), but most notably it can take a lot of time and effort. Deep cleaning any space, even a single-family home, is no small task, but a school is a massive undertaking. For that reason, any breaks where the children are gone for an extended period of time – more than just two days for the weekend – are really the best plan when it comes to conquering your cleaning plans. There are a few natural pauses in the year when this is possible – summer, fall, and winter breaks.
If any cleaning needs to be done bi-annually, summer and winter breaks are the perfect time to do it. But for all other annual deep cleaning, summer is really the best time.
- You have longer to clean. Deep cleaning can be tedious, and while a few weeks during winter is likely sufficient, it’ll also be needlessly stressful. Using the summer allows you the time you need to coordinate cleaning efforts and make a schedule that works for your desired pace.
- You’re less likely to create more work as you go. Winter means rain and wind, and perhaps worse depending on where you’re located. If you’re working hard to get your school in ship shape, you don’t want to open the door to a newly cleaned room and have debris blow in, followed by muddy footsteps.
- It’s nice to have a new year and a new start. Typically, that means a new beginning in January, but in this case it’s nice to keep school years separate from one another so you can enjoy a clean slate for each school year.
In any aspect of life – our homes or our business – cleaning can seem like a dreary chore, but it is an important one that makes a huge difference. Especially for those who spend their lives in the service of educating future generations, a good cleaning schedule and planning can make all the difference when it comes to providing them the beautiful learning environment they deserve!
