Maintaining and Cleaning a Walk-In Freezer
|November 19, 2019
Running a business involves a lot of responsibility, but also a lot of reward for independent business owners who get to see their dreams come true every day. When it comes to the success of your business – there’s a lot that is involved, and nobody knows that better than you. Staying organized, getting all your product and equipment, managing employees, marketing to get the word out, providing great service every day – it all goes into the big picture. When there are so many moving pieces that need to be considered all the time, it can be easy to forget or ignore smaller things that don’t seem as important compared to the pressing issue of the day-to-day. For restaurant owners in particular, food handling requires a lot of consideration and care to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers. When it comes to the daily hustle and bustle, it can be easy to forget about routine maintenance that doesn’t feel like it absolutely needs to be done – but that can be a costly mistake. Neglecting to care for your equipment, like your walk-in freezer or cooler, can lead to big repair costs or even a massive loss of product. To avoid that, here are a few tips to keep your walk-in in great shape.
Always keep it clean
Your walk-in cooler sees a lot of action daily, but it has an important job too: storing all your product. It may not feel important to keep it in clean condition when it’s easy to get dirty again, but in addition to being unsanitary, it’ll let smaller problems spiral into bigger problems. If you clean your walk-in regularly, you’re more likely to notice when there has been an issue before it becomes a big repair bill. In addition to that, food and related messes can build up over time and cause unneeded wear and tear on your equipment, leading you to need to replace it sooner. By staying on top of it on a regular basis, you’re more likely to save yourself some time and money down the road.
Routinely clean evaporator fan coils and blades
Any time you have a piece of equipment with moving parts, it’s important to inspect and care for those parts regularly to keep them in good condition and prevent problems. Even a quarterly inspection and cleaning will have a big impact on not allowing mechanical issues to spiral out of control, and you’ll also be able to see when to replace them before there is a breakdown, which could cost you a much bigger repair bill and result in a loss of expensive product.
Clean the door gaskets
It can be easy to take such a small detail for granted, but those gaskets are what keep your product fresh and usable. They also have a way of getting very dirty, which can lead to them degrading over time and compromise the seal on your door. To avoid this, make sure to include them on your routine cleaning list instead of skipping them over. If you see any signs of wear and tear, keep your eye on it and replace it before it can spiral into a bigger problem.
