Gym/Health Club Cleaning: 5 Must-Have Procedures
|July 30, 2021
It’s safe to say that gym and health club cleaning procedures have evolved, and by that, we mean that they have been expanded to include many more tasks so as to sustain the public’s need for cleaner and healthier environments. Gone are the days that the basic services of a nighttime janitorial crew are enough to ensure gym and health club visitors can return the following day without concern.
The good thing is that you don’t need to burn up your existing cleaning procedures, checklists, and schedules. If you perform these tasks in-house, you only need to amend (aka add) your procedures, make sure you get all the necessary supplies, and afford the additional time required. If you outsource, then revisit your contract and make the necessary changes. Either way, here are five must-have cleaning procedures at your gym or health club:
Prioritize Disinfecting
Disinfecting has become the protective older brother of cleaning. Unfortunately, the simplicity, costs, time required, and energy spent on traditional cleaning and janitorial efforts isn’t enough to meet the raised standards and expectations of society. For your gym or health club, think about investing in an electrostatic disinfecting device. It’s a new technology that almost guarantees the comprehensive disinfecting of all surfaces evenly.
Clean and Service Your HVAC
What we learned from the pandemic is that some dangers to health are almost invisible and can travel by air on the tiniest particles. This makes the cleaning and maintenance of your HVAC systems very important. Consider servicing your system and replacing any old, outdated parts and filters. After that, include regular cleaning and maintenance in your procedures.
Know CSDS & Implement in Your Routines
There’s a difference between cleaning, sanitization, disinfecting, and sterilization, and your gym or health club likely requires a bit of all four. Don’t know the difference, or didn’t know there even was a difference? Take this as a sign that you should read up on it (here), and include in your procedures appropriately.
Provide Access to Personal Hygiene Resources
Consider installing hand sanitizer dispensers throughout your facility, and provide spray bottles of disinfecting solution along with towels or other wiping materials for clients to clean up after themselves. In today’s world, this is a must-have in your cleaning procedures.
Communicate New Policies to Your Clients
The purpose of any gym or health club, and the nature of what your clients visit to do, makes your facility a breeding ground for viruses, bacteria, germs, and other hazardous pathogens. It’s also a place where the risk of exchanging sickness is high.
People may in general be more cautious and attentive to the health condition of those around them, but without proactive communication, your new policies and procedures will not be as effective. Ideas? Instruct your staff to communicate important points daily, send out informative emails, hang signs throughout your facility, and display recurring messages on all digital displays.
