End of Summer Cleaning Tips
|August 14, 2019
“Spring cleaning” – a phrase that sounds like new beginnings to some, while filling others with a sense of utter dread. No matter which side of the line you may fall, spring cleaning should never be your only scheduled deep cleaning time. Although you can likely skip some of the tasks that only need doing a few times a year, there are other tasks that should be done seasonally, and the end of summer is no different. Plus, summer is a time for fun and making the most of the great weather, which means some of us are guilty of letting regular cleaning fall to the wayside – even if it’s just a little bit. Now that summer is winding to a close (as much as we hate to admit it), it’s time to go through the list of cleaning tasks for the end of summer.
Survey your space
Your space is unique, so your cleaning list is likely to be as well. Before diving right in, walk around and take inventory of your property. Is the outside area in need of sweeping, power washing, or a touch-up to any landscaping? Have the floors been only surface cleaned for the past few months? Your carpets may need shampooing, your tiles may need polishing, and your wood might even need a new coat of sealant – no matter which materials you have in your building, appraise them with a careful eye. When making your master list, don’t forget to look high and low, and in nooks and crannies – both on the exterior and in the interior of the building.
Make a cleaning plan
Once you have a comprehensive list, you’ll be able to proceed methodically and efficiently. But don’t feel the need to tackle several months of grime in a single day of cleaning. Make a realistic plan, and schedule everything out over the course of a few days, or even weeks, depending on the size of the property and its specific needs. This will make sure you don’t get burnt out and start cutting corners, which would defeat the purpose of this season’s deep clean. Also, don’t work alone if you can avoid it. If you have employees to help clean your business, it may be worth a few extra hours of wages – or, call in the professionals at No More Dirt to lighten your load and get it done right the first time.
Outside areas take a beating
Especially if you have outdoor furniture that only comes out of storage after the rainy season ends, your outdoor spaces may take a beating during the hot and active summer months. Consider taking the covers off any patio cushions to wash them, power washing metal furniture, and really working to get things back to the picture perfect way you set them up before the summer fun took hold and pushed chores to the back of the priority list.
Heating and air
Your air conditioner has likely been in overdrive while your heating system likely hasn’t been activated in a while. Now is a great time to give both a routine inspection since the weather is nice enough that they are both getting breaks. Make sure to check your air conditioning filter, as it probably needs to be replaced after catching grime all season. Your heating system has likely accumulated plenty of dust, so now is the perfect time to vacuum and disinfect the area around it before it’s time to shine comes round again in the winter.
