Bar Cleaning Procedures Your Patrons Notice And Appreciate
|July 30, 2021
Bars and other alcoholic-beverage-serving places are where people go to have fun, enjoy each other’s company, and unwind from the overall pressures and stress of life. Whatever theme a bar has or the atmosphere it intends to create, bar patrons not only appreciate a clean, hygienic space but expect it. They are there, dressed well and boisterous, to spend their money on drinks and food after all.
The traditional cleaning procedures of a bar are pretty unique, with a lot of focus and attention given to the spaces around, on, and behind the bars. A great many people will come and go in one night, and hundreds (if not thousands) of glasses, cups, and other beverage containers will be used. Bars are a high touch and high traffic environment, so skipping and missing any cleaning procedures will be noticed, and may hurt your business. Here are the bar cleaning procedures that your patrons will notice and appreciate, and that will ultimately help your business:
Periodically Clean During Peak Hours
It may seem counterintuitive to have a procedure to clean during peak hours, but it’s during those peak hours that cleaning is required the most. Without it, patrons will notice spills, trash, food scraps, and other debris on the floor and other surfaces, which will ultimately hurt your business.
Get Behind, Under & Around Everything
During business hours, you don’t necessarily need to be concerned about the dust, dirt, and debris that collects behind, under and around fixtures and furniture. Your patrons won’t notice, especially under the influence of alcohol. If you ignore this too long, though, food, drink residue, dirt, debris, and other contaminants will build up and cause unfriendly smells, mold, damage to fixtures and furniture, and more. Once a month, make sure you clean behind, under and around everything.
Empty & Clean Your Appliances
Food and drinks that taste bad, smell weird, or otherwise don’t meet the expectations of your patrons could mean your appliances need to be cleaned. For drinks, this could mean contaminated ice, and that would require you to empty, clean, disinfect, and rinse the inside of your ice machine. For food, this could mean that you need to unplug, empty your refrigerators and freezers, and do the same.
Emphasize Fresh Air
Bars are a place where countless distinct smells and scents come together, some great, some interesting, and some terrible. On a hot night in a packed bar, especially after patrons have had plenty to drink, these smells and scents combined can be awful, and this can not only hurt your business on such a night, but also cost you future business by leaving a bad impression.
Make sure your cleaning procedures include maintenance to your HVAC system, cleaning vent covers, cleaning air filters, and cleaning your windows and window screens in order to enable efficient fresh air circulation. Consider offering your patrons mints and mouthwash, too!
