Tips for Keeping Your Entryway Clean
|July 23, 2019
Entryways may not seem like the most important part of your business – and to be fair, they’re probably not – but they are a prospective client’s or associate’s first impression of your storefront, which does make it important to send the right message. Entryways can get messy easily – they’re where the outside meets the inside, which means they’re where plenty of dirt and grime can accumulate easily. Unfortunately, the outer area can also become a dumping ground for cigarette butts and other pieces of litter, so it’s important to keep your eye on all the areas a visitor may pass to enter your storefront and do business.
Daily trash inspection
Cigarette butts are the most common forms of litter around storefronts, but there are other pieces of trash that people coming and going may not go out of their way to place in a garbage. For this reason our first tip is to make a garbage accessible – if there is one conveniently placed, it will encourage litterbugs to dispose of things properly. It’s also important to do a daily trash inspection – this can be done as a part of a routine cleaning schedule, or just something you get in the habit of doing at the end of each day on your way out the door. Make sure tiny pieces of garbage are disposed of regularly so that way they don’t accumulate and dingy your business’s appearance.
Power-washing
A good power-washing can make a big impact on the outside area of your entryway. Dirt and mud can build up easily on walkways, and even walls and columns can end up with a substantial layer of grime. If you have any wooden fixtures, like a patio or bench, they can look aged far beyond their years, and even appear to be in need of replacement when that may not be the case at all. To breathe some new life into the outside of your entryway, hire a professional team (or even rent a power-washer yourself) and blast away the wear and tear to reveal your gorgeous original exterior.
Clean floors
On the inside area of your entryway, a shoe mat is an absolute must. That being said, it’s not going to catch everything, and it’s going to look worse for the wear itself after enough foot traffic has passed through. To make the interior of your storefront look as welcoming as you want it to look, be sure to wash your shoe mat regularly – depending on the mat, it may be easier to either throw it in the washing machine, or bring it outside to power-wash on occasion. In addition to that, sweep and mop any hard flooring, and vacuum any carpets. By doing these two small tasks regularly, your inside will always look as nice as the day you first opened.
Every business is different, and your entryway may have additional elements in need of some TLC from time to time. No matter how your store is laid out or what your entryway is made of, by spending a little extra time on a consistent basis, you’re sure to keep your space looking in top notch condition so everyone has the best possible first impression of your business.
